Best of 2015: Anjali’s Top 5 Songs

December 16, 2015

List compiled by Anj

1. Kendrick Lamar – “Institutionalized”

Probably one of my most-played tracks (and album) of 2015. It was pretty hard to pick just one track from such an indescribable album but this beat drop is a highlight.

Copyright laws mean I can’t find an album version of this track on YouTube, so here’s the instrumental:

2. Sasac – “Pig”

I stumbled across Sasac on Soundcloud. His electro-synth-smoothness immediately had me in a groove. An honourable mention also has to go to the track “Future Disc” (https://soundcloud.com/ultraultra/future-disc).

3. The Internet – “Under Control”

Another album I absolutely rinsed this Summer. Safe to say, I am head over heels in love with Syd the Kyd’s voice. This song reminds me of the sun – when it’s out it makes me want to kick back and smile. It works with summer mornings, afternoons AND evenings with its airy, cruisey, laidback vibe.

4. Tom Misch – “Hark”

Misch’s genius has made another consecutive year in my annual music list. And this time, the name fits like a glove. This piece of gold was recommended to me by fellow music enthusiast Donya (follow her here: http://www.donyadavis.com/ ). This song is a journey and it ends way too quickly for my liking.

5. LMC – “For Real”

This was on heavy rotation in 2015 for walks to the station in the morning. It’s like a rap song without the MC. But that’s fine, cos the beat stands it’s ground on its own.
