Best of 2015: Jada’s Top 10 UK Songs

December 20, 2015

List complied by Jada Guest – WebsiteTwitter

A collection of the most decent UK tracks of 2015, mostly they’ve just got that special something. In no particular order:

Stormzy (@STORMZY1) – Shut Up

Stormzy’s campaign for Christmas Number One was strong enough to surpass the dreaded X Factor single but that Justin Bieber just won’t budge. Number Eight is truly exceptional, no other grime artist has ever charted as high.

Section Boyz (@SECTIONBOYZ_) – Lock Arff

These guys won Best Newcomer at this years MOBOs and performed with Rita Ora on primetime TV. Who’d have thought it?

WSTRN ft Wretch 32, Chip & Geko – In2 Remix

The original is probably top song of the year, hands down, but I have to include the remix on this list. Featuring 32, my favourite UK artist, plus a catchy hook and melody from the WSTRN boys.

MoStack (@REALMOSTACK) – Rich Not Famous

The right amount of rap, melody and banter. I’m in to him and J-Hus just as much.

Fekky ft Skepta (@FEKKYOFFICIAL / @SKEPTA) – Way Too Much

Fekky sold out XOYO in London earlier this year and this one went off nicely. He’s also managed to squeeze in a new mixtape before the years end. It’s been a great year for them both.

Kano (@THEREALKANO) – Garage Skank

This year marked the 10th anniversary of Home Sweet Home, a KA classic and a seriously hard one to beat. Garage Skank sounds like it could be the grime revivals answer to P&Q’s. I await the rest…

Krept & Konan (KREPTPLAYDIRTY / @KONANPLAYDIRTY) – Mo Money Mo Problems Cover (1Xtra Live Lounge)

In 2015 their debut album reached number 2 in the UK album chart. They sold out the 02 Empire and had the crowd rapping/singing every single word. It’s been a record breaking year – the Tsunami’s on it’s way.

Cadet (@CALLMECADET) – Behind Bars

The most heartfelt Behind Bars I’ve heard in forever. A great storyteller – I think he’s got a lot of potential, let’s see what he does in 2016. CADET CADET.

Ghetts x Rude Kid (@JCLARKE_GHETTS / @RUDEKIDMUSIC) – One Take

Good old skippy, skippy Ghetts – my favourite. This one had me reminiscing right back to The Movement days.

Elf Kid (@ELFISWORLD) – Golden Boy

A late addition to the list but one which perfectly embodies all of the energy and excitement grime and rap have thrown up this year. A breathe of fresh air. Roll on 2016!
