Best of 2016: Anjali’s Top 10 Songs

December 20, 2016

1. KAYTRANADA – Bus Rides

The entire 99.9% album was perfection. This, in particular, was a favourite of mine for late night walks home. A dream-like concoction of drums, piano twinkles and strings. Very Tom Misch/J Dilla-esque.

2. Making Jacob – TBJ

Listen to this on a sunny day in a park. I promise you won’t regret it. (Thank you Soundcloud for giving artists a way to release gems to the rest of the world).

3. Jinsang – Solitude

Cheating here a little bit cos this is an entire album..or just one big fat song merged together? This goes down as one of my favourite albums of all time. Hip hop / soul / jazz / blues combined. It’s a journey, man.

4. Kendrick Lamar – untitled 03 | multiply (live version)

It’s always always a pleasure, Kendrick.

5. NAO – Adore You

NAO absolutely killed it this year. She was on loop all summer long.

6. De La Soul ft Snoop Dogg – Pain

De La Soul and Snoop Dogg. Infinite head bopping. A comfort to hear an old-school beat in such a new-school world.

7. BJ The Chicago Kid – Turnin’ Me Up

D’Angelo-inspired goodness.

8. Floating Points – For Marmish Part II

As if Part 1 wasn’t enough, he went and did this for us.

9. JUMBA – if only u..

Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss (juslisen).

10. Solange – Where Do We Go

Trying to pick a favorite song from her album is like trying to pick a favourite child. It’s just too damn hard. Solange, you made history with this album.
