Speaking with the many people I met on my travels around South America, Acai seems to have that marmite effect on people…. you either love it or you hate it. I was one of the lovers of this fruit originating from the amazon rain forest. You have to get over the initial bitterness to fully appreciate the exotic taste of Acai. It is widely available all over Brazil but more so along the coast. Its very popular and can be found as a smoothie or an ice cream but the most common variety is blended and topped with banana, honey and granola. I had mine in Florianopolis in a nice little fishing village called Barra do Lagoa where I spent a couple days enjoying good food, beer and the sun. Very refreshing and very filling so maybe opt to have it for lunch when the temperatures are scorching.
