Poetry – Drums by Anjali Barot – Violence & Terrorism

January 22, 2015

You could say it’s inspired by the violence/terrorism going on all around us. Let me know what you think:

Drums

We are covered in hot, electric flames and
They burn our elements
Till we’re bare-boned
And shivering.

Like silly clowns at a banquet,
We try and fit into a hexagon,
Bend and fall, break and crawl,
Limbs are laying at right angles

Their explosions create ripples in our ears,
Drums that thunder through our souls,
Till they fall out through our eye ducts,
We’re f*cked.

My heart’s the size of my fist,
But it’s not strong enough to punch,
Through silk cobwebs,
That I spin,
Dizzying complications,
And I’m hanging by my own thread.

Let’s leave this town together,
Kick the dust,
From the dirty soles of our feet,
Cos a clean soul,
Doesn’t live in this kind of sin.

Sunsets in my mind,
Of a greater time,
Where our
Backs don’t snap as easily as pens do.
We’re due a piece of peace,
A slice of sweet cake,
That can transcend this bitter,
Into a world of glitter.
